New laptop..... :)))))

Yay !
Its finally reached India....
The laptop has seen more of the world than I have. :|
Starting from LA, then onto Toronto to Dubai, Chennai, and finally Bangalore. God knows where it was manufactures, warehoused and finally shipped out from.
And it will join me in Amdavaad a few months down the line when I go home in Sept...
CANT wait to get my hands on it... Par kya karein.... Adjust karna padega.
Waise dad ka laptop bee bhadiya he. Its got a cool processor ( AMD Turion 64-bit), the only issue is with the RAM - just 192 MB. I'll prob get dad to buy and add a 512 MB RAM to it... It should rock then !
Cricket today @ 11.30..... :) but b4 that MANAC discussion @ 10.00 :|

The cycle of time....

Last night was similar to what happ exactly a week before.... After having 4 quizzes in 4 days, one does need a breather... And I guess a fri evening/night is one time you end up splurging.... No, not money, but a more important commodity: ur time!
Played soccer, cricket, volley and TT... the last 2 after having had a sumptuous dinner, (the 'Harvard' dinner which happens Fri nights ... )
Off for a haircut now.... :D

What else is new? @_@

Despite having professed that I was not going to write about quizzes, here came another.... 3 in a row. MANAC this time, and I have fared no better that last time. Again all I can hope is not to get a D !
The Economics RA had accidentally shown her inbox to a student in another section, and it said
"Question paper for quiz."
So by the time our last class was getting over, we were mentally prepared for an Eco quiz. But werent we all shocked to c it was going to be MANAC again !
Eco is almost a surety for tomm.... Got to mug *hard*, there being only 2 quizzes in the entire term, and each carrying 10% weightage.... In a way, I hope the quiz does happen tomm...
I'm gonna mug for it now !

Quiz again.

I guess in future I'll actually write something when there is no quiz scheduled for the day :|
Operations Mgmt (OM) quiz. A simple enough question paper at first sight, but then like a kitten left amidst some wool, i ended up getting all muddled and entangled...... Jacked, basically.
And heard there is no N-1 funda for MC.... i.e. yest's MC quiz is highly likely to give me a fail grade (D) and there will be nothing I can do about it.
Sigh.

Ive been NAMED.......

....yUCo
Yup, That's my dorm name. Able to figure out what it means?

Way Below par.....

I had a definitely forgettable MC quiz. Thats what u get when u slack off and dont do the regular classwork urself. :|
And MANAC too was a major screwup. Got a C- ! :(
N has now become N-1 for me for both MANAC and MC.

A terrible day so far.

Sat night fever....

A blog which I wrote a few days back, but forgot to post.... So here it goes !

After the WAC run, the next 12 hrs were spent totally chilling.... First 'short-cricket' with dorm mates, and then soccer.... Dinner, followed by competetive cricket ( how long had been since that happened? ). The first 2 fachcha bv tuchcha matches ended in us being routed... And then we decided to mix and play, and less lopsided game ensued. We then came to the mess where the other event associated with the WAC Run, the 'Ramp party' was being held... Unlike the prev saturday( when we had our 1st ramp ), this time the turnout was rather poor.... So joined some seniors in playing on LKP, which in no time developed into one of WIMWI's fav sports.... Competetive Frisbee (played pretty much like soccer !)
After loafing about LKP for some more time with fellow fachchas we decided to call it a day around 4... On my way back I saw people playing TT, and I too joined in and 1 hour and 8 sets later, we were all ready to call it quits....
All in all, A night to remember.
Cant wait for the next weekend....

The WAC run that *never* was....

NEVER SAY NEVER AGAIN. That was the title of the unofficial James Bond film (a remake of Thunderball )starring Sean Connery released in 1983, which was released almost at the same time as the official James Bond franchise film "Octopussy".... Connery was asked after "Diamonds are forever" in 1956 if he would consider playing Bond again. He said "Never". :|
Food for thought, that.

Otherwise I'm in a much better situation to blog now.... Some food in the stomach and a few hrs of sleep can work miracles :D
On Fri night, I made very little progress with my WAC analysis, and like an absolute ass decided to take a 'nap' around 12. True to form, I fell asleep immediately and since I had a sneaky suspicion I might do that, I'd set an alarm for 5.... Which means I was up by 6.
If I've gotta do well, I've got to conquer my sleeping problem.... I did the same thing twice last week, which meant I went underprepared to class and piled on backlogs for myself (esp in Economics :( )

Anyhow, so at 6 AM when most ppl had just gone to bed after finishing their first draft, I began my efforts of writing the WAC report.... Its not 'rocket science' as they say, but it aint very straightforward either. I started writing my Situation Analysis only to realise 150 words and 1.5 hrs later, that I was writing total CRAP. By that time I was cursing my idiocy the last day, and nervous as hell. Anyhow to cut (what could be) a long story short, I then started thinking and writing more sensibly, made good progress and was able to finish the report sans the Executive Summary and Memo by 12.30.... And without exceeding the 1100 word limit by too much(~80 words), which meant my editing would not take too much time....

As is customary, I enlisted a tuchcha's help to read and point out inconsistencies in arguments, etc and subsequently started editing. Finally I was able to get it done and reviewed yet again by the inhouse WAC experts ( again tuchchas of course!) by 3, which left me quite ample time to print and submit the same by 4.oo
And there were no waiting monsters ( read, tuchchas :P) to waylay my path, so it was rather straightforward.

After this began the unwinding...... A lot of stress over the week, and one chance to forget it.... For a day at least.

Unwinding @ IIM A....

There is so much I want to write about, but so little of it can be actually expressed in words.... I am gonna give it a shot though !

Its now been more than 13.30.00 hrs since my WAC report submission. Sorry to disappoint, but there was no WAC run by me. Infact just a handful of my fellow fachchas ended up doing the run, and all but one of them did so coz they's been locked up in their room....
So there was no WAC run, but I came dangerously close to it.... To get into a more philosophical mood will be tough given that its 5.45 AM and sleep is finally catching up !

Quizzes..... And WAC runs !

The first has happened, and in all likelihood so will the second :|
3 quizzes, HR (in class, 7-minute surprise one ) , MANAC and QM.... HAve fared well in two and majorly screwed up the third [ MANAC - I developed what I later coined a 'visual block' wherein I *happened* not to see a 4-line table right in the middle of the page..... I was cribbing to myself during the exam about the lack of data, when it was staring me in the face :( ]
Today was the QM quiz, and others performance notwithstanding, I've done a fairly decent job.... Yes, those who are reading this, I am feeling a little smug about it right now.....

But all thats the past. The future is bleak. Very. EXACTLY 23.45.59 hrs from now I need to submit my first WAC report... It said that if u want to break the ice with any IIM alumnus, just mention WAC (aka Written Analysis and Communication). You are guaranteed that it will causen him not thaw, but absolutely boil over. Invariably every alumnus would have had one WAC run atleast ( which for the uninitiated is a (last-1)th minute dash by most of us to submit our assignments, with our beloved seniors waiting, armed with buckets of water, to douse us.... Every minute literally results in one sub-grade less :| )

It is very likely that tomorrow I will be able to write in and say "been there, done that" or rather "bheeg gaya, tho kya? " :)

Time (i.e. 23.35.00 hrs from now ) will tell.

Going late to class.

Big deal.
That's pretty much what anyone ( well almost ) would say. But not @ WIMWI.
And I was guilty of that cardinal sin on 4th..... I was prob 1-1.5 minutes late and I consider myself lucky to have gotten away with it....
And that too after all the gyaan from seniors regarding punctuality.... Was busy solving a MANAC case and just didnt notice the clock ticking... :((
Anyhow, I'm thankful to the prof who didnt ( more likely, chose not to ) notice my surreptious entry to class ( a fact not helped by the fact I sit on the 1st row :| )....

I'm now 23.

Big deal. Do I feel all that different? My posterior, yes, to a certain extent. Othewise, the same.
But I cant believe I'm gonna have to tell some one I'm TWENTY THREE !!

Some one change the goddamn tubelight !

Heavy rains here..... And lightning of an intensity I have never seen before. It was like a tubelight gone bad , albeit on a colossal scale..... the flickering never seemed to stop !

Germany lose 0-2 to Italy, who shot both the goals in the last minute of extra time.... And wonderful goals too.... Heartbreak for the hosts. I watched it with a certain amount of disinterest; with Brazil out of contention my enthusiasm for the game has markedly decreased. I will not be writing anything more on Brazilian soccer for a while....

WC coverage has been markedly low, and I am yet to watch a single point of my fav Grand Slam, the Wimbledon!

Life here does have a rather insular quality.... Atleast in the 1st few weeks. One does not have time to do much, and is always trying to get afew hrs off to do non acad stuff - which for me means orkutting or as is the case now, blogging.

But within the hallowed walls, there is tremendous bonding.... There has already been a dorm outing to Sheeba's on C.G.Road, (and thats' where my tuchchas went 1 year back as well!). And a lunch treat for the 'Mal' group the next day.... With as many *fraud* mallus as original ones !

Its 3 AM and I'm stuck on a MANAC case.... Long way off before I get some shut eye. And one way I'm not gonna get shut-eye is if I continue to write anymore !
Over n out.
